About Us

iDesign partners with universities to build, grow, and support online and blended course and program offerings. We are passionate about serving faculty and designing engaging learner experiences that unlock the potential of instructional technology. It’s in our name, it’s in our DNA, and we believe that great instructional design is critical for developing successful programs. We provide concierge, white-glove instructional design support to our faculty partners, bringing expertise, service, and project structure to bear and ensuring that faculty feel comfortable, informed, and in control throughout the process.

iDesign is currently looking for qualified learning architects to join our research and development team. This is a part-time, 1099 contract position. The opening is for future project needs.

Are you that person?

What You'll Do

While R&D projects differ in terms of stakeholders, project goals, and deliverables, you’ll work closely with the Director of LX Innovation to reimagine online learning design in ways that fulfill the stakeholder needs, reflect instructional design best practices, and leverage the pedagogical affordances of learning platforms and tools involved (usually in previously untested ways). Many R&D projects also involve incorporating those innovations and applying backwards design strategies to develop online learning experiences in collaboration with faculty or subject matter experts (SMEs).

A typical learning experience development team includes a learning architect (you!), instructional technologist, quality reviewer, graphic designer, and project manager.  Depending on the project, you may also be coordinating with multimedia production teams and additional learning architects and content creators.

The successful candidate will work remotely on a contract basis. iDesign recognizes that a quality workforce is paramount to our success. We provide professional development and internal advancement opportunities.

 You will:

  • Learn what is possible at the intersection of instructional, visual, and digital design.

  • Engage in rapid prototyping as part of an intensely collaborative, cross-functional team.

  • Create and customize design strategies to meet the specific needs of faculty/SMEs or other stakeholders.

  • Utilize the iDesign planning, prototyping, and blueprinting process to develop online, hybrid, and blended learning experiences.

  • Imagine and produce deliverables such as sample courses and screencast demonstrations for business development purposes.

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with faculty/SME or other stakeholders throughout the development process.

  • Keep projects on-time and in-scope through consistent, transparent, and effective communication and coordination with all external and internal stakeholders.

What You Need to Get the Job Done

  • Advanced degree in education, instructional technology or related field.

  • Deep knowledge of digital learning design and learning theory – including but not limited to universal design for learning (UDL), adult learning, and digital pedagogies.

  • Experience in collaborative online course development or learner experience design in higher education, including faculty/SME interaction.

  • Experience in engaging in design thinking and creative leadership.

  • Experience designing courses in Canvas LMS.

  • Strong understanding of how audience, purpose, and goals impact design – and the strategic and creative thinking skills to follow through with customized learning designs.

  • Strong appreciation for multimedia and visual design including close attention to information presentation page layout.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and history of positive results achieved collaboratively.

  • Familiarity with ADA compliance and best practices for accessibility.

  • Fluency in Google Drive, Gmail, and video conferencing applications (e.g. Zoom, Google Hangouts, or similar).

  • General knowledge of (or great interest in learning about) commonly used educational tools/LTIs/apps such as H5P, Quizlet, Padlet, Flipgrid, Voicethread, iSpring, etc.

What Will Make Us REALLY Love You

  • An interdisciplinary academic or professional background that will make it easier to communicate with faculty/SMEs/stakeholders across multiple disciplines and fields.

  • Availablity for asynchronous (more essential) and synchronous (less essential) team communication during the daytime business hours.

  • Excellent writing, visual, or multimedia skills, preferably displayed in an online portfolio we can see and discuss with you.

  • Evidence of intense curiosity and a desire to tinker with courses, operational workflows, or processes based on the possibility that you might be able to improve them.

  • Experience with LMS other than Canvas such as Blackboard, Moodle, or D2L.

  • Experience with project management and the use of related tools such as Smartsheets.
